Un Uovo di Rinascita: Bene Attivi Porta Dolcezze e Speranza ai Giovanissimi di Benevento

Faced with a health crisis that has spiraled into an economic one, and building upon previous successful food collection drives, the Bene Attivi Community Center felt compelled to extend a hand of compassion just before Easter. Their focus was on children who, due to current hardships, might otherwise have been deprived of the cherished tradition of the Easter egg.

Driven by this ethos, volunteers from the Bene Attivi Solidarity Center, located in Benevento’s Santa Maria degli Angeli district, orchestrated the creation of delightful chocolate eggs. This heartwarming initiative, made possible by numerous generous contributors—both publicly acknowledged and anonymous, including Rosaria Pisaniello, Assicurazioni Palumbo, the AIL section of Benevento, Antonietta Sparaneo, Mimmo Orlacchio, Andrea Caruso, Assuntina Raffio, Valentino Di Fede, among others—aims to reach over 100 children and teenagers from families receiving assistance.

The distribution of these special treats is scheduled for Saturday, April 3rd, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, at the Center’s headquarters in Piazza Enrico Maria Fusco 6-7. To ensure safety, deliveries will be staggered and adhere strictly to current anti-Covid regulations.

More than just a simple act of charity, this gesture seeks to bring joy to the youngest members of the community while simultaneously embodying a profound symbol of rebirth after an unparalleled and enforced period of pandemic. The deliberate choice of an egg as a gift is laden with meaning. Throughout history, from ancient pagan rites to mythological narratives, the egg has consistently represented renewal. It symbolizes the arrival of spring, a season when nature reawakens from its dormant winter, and the earth experiences a resurgence of life and fertility.

“During this exceptionally trying time for all citizens,” state Giuseppe Petito (President of Proloco Samnium) and Alessio De Toma (President of Associazione Giovanni De Toma), who lead the Center’s affiliated organizations, “we must not overlook the children and young people. They are likely experiencing the burdens of social isolation and confinement more acutely than others. Our intent with this small, symbolic gesture is to offer a chocolate egg to those who, sadly, might otherwise go without this year. These traditional Easter sweets will be personally delivered by the dedicated volunteers of the Bene Attivi Solidarity Center, alongside both presidents. Our greatest hope,” they conclude, “is to succeed in bringing a much-needed smile to these children.”
